Alyscamps (Arles)

Alyscamp is a graveyard of ancient times. At the bottom of this sketch you can see stone coffins.

From the Roman Age to the Middle Ages, corpses were carried here from other areas of Europe and buried.

I felt uneasy sketching in the graveyard, dark with many tall trees, surrounded by coffins, without anybody around me.
